Abstract

The article examines the results of the work of students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of a pedagogical university with the textbook “Introductory and remedial phonetic course of the French language”, offered as part of the study of the course “Practical phonetics (French)” in the 1st year of the Faculty of Foreign Languages. The authors of the article identify two types of phonetic skills: auditory-pronunciation and rhythmic-intonation, which should be developed in students by the end of the first year. The article presents an analysis of the results of the level of formation of auditory-pronunciation and rhythmic-intonation phonetic skills of students in the control and experimental groups studying the phonetics of the French language. The study showed that the level of development of phonetic skills among first-year students who worked for a year using the textbook “Introductory and corrective phonetic course of the French language” was higher than that of students in the control group. This is due to the fact that the great advantage of the textbook is that almost all exercises and texts have audio recordings made by native speakers, which allows students to learn to pronounce French sounds as correctly as possible and master French intonation. At the end of the article, the authors confirm the effectiveness of using the textbook in the classes “Practical Phonetics (French)” at a pedagogical university.
