https://doi.org/10.24412/2225-8264-2025-1-898

Abstract

The article considers current issues of involving students in the online educational process. Onboarding is studied as an innovative engagement tool — a set of activities that form the first impression of the virtual learning environment and are aimed at a successful start to learning. Including onboarding in the organizational structure of the online educational process helps to reduce stress, increase comfort, reduce time for support, accelerate the process of achieving results, and improve results and satisfaction. The article considers various approaches to the engagement model, highlights the factors influencing engagement and their categories. Onboarding and adaptation are presented as the initial stages of the online educational process, which help the learner successfully immerse himself in a new environment and become a part of it. A three-stage onboarding strategy (immersion, training, adaptation), basic rules and principles of usability are described. The onboarding technology is presented through a structural description of its constituent modules (social adaptation, technical adaptation, educational adaptation, professional and personal self-realization), and the formats of onboarding adaptation activities are set.
